A raised letter means that instead of cutting the letter out of the surface of the plate, the background is cutaway to leave the letters raised and proud of the surface. This type of plaque has many advantages; the plaque is less susceptible to vandalism because the stainless steel is hard enough to resist most types of scratching tool. We recommend that plaques are glued on to the supporting surface as screws seem to attract vandals. They are also good in extreme weather conditions as the paint used to fill and highlight the normal engraved letters is not necessary and therefore cannot be lost or removed.
